Safety Tips

Your safety is very important to us. We want to make sure you always feel comfortable and safe on both TDR dates as well as dates that you may arrange outside of TDR. We hope that you will keep these best practices in mind when dating. Don't hesitate to reach out to your Matchmaker if you have questions or concerns regarding your safety.

General Principles:

Always be Respectful and Kind

  • Always be respectful and treat your matches as you would want them to treat you.
  • If you feel the need to end communication, then be honest, direct and polite.

Move at a Comfortable Pace

  • When it comes to creating a meaningful, long-lasting relationship, go at a pace that is comfortable for you. If you feel your date is attempting to rush you, you are always within your right to slow things down.

Trust Your Gut

  • If something feels off or you are uncomfortable at any time, do not hesitate to stop communication or end the date early.

Make Your Dates Safe and Successful:

First in-person meetings are exciting, and that excitement can and should last through future dates too, but be mindful of these guidelines to help you stay safe at all times.

  • As you're getting to know one another, meet in a public, well-populated place. Do not opt to meet in a private, remote location or your date's home. If you feel pressure to do so, end the date and leave immediately.
  • Tell at least one friend or family member about your plans, where you are going, who you will be with, and when you will return. Arrange to check in with them after each of the first few dates.
  • If your date offers to pick you up before a date, chances are, they are trying to be chivalrous. However, if it makes you feel uncomfortable, feel free to meet them at the date location instead. We don't recommend letting someone pick you up for a first date.
  • Have your cell phone charged and with you at all times.
  • It's important to keep a clear head. Consumption of alcohol or other drugs that impede your judgment could potentially put you in danger.
  • Have a backup plan in case things do not go the way you expected. If you feel uncomfortable on the date, it's okay to end it early.
  • If you're in an uncomfortable situation, don't hesitate to call a friend and/or alert your server or bartender and ask for help.

Protect Your Personal Information:

  • Never give sensitive personal information, such as social security number, credit card number or bank information, to someone regardless of their reasons for claiming to need such information.
  • Do not share your work or home address with someone you haven't met in person.
  • Note: TDR will never ask for your username and password information. Please report any such communication attempts immediately.
  • Additionally, please report anyone who violates our Terms & Conditions support@threedayrule.com. Examples of violations include:
    • behaving inappropriately in person or virtually
    • sending offensive emails or messages
    • asking you for money/donations

Health:

Three Day Rule welcomes and empowers our community of members to create and develop relationships. An important aspect of any healthy relationship, whether formed within or outside of TDR, is ensuring sexual health and safety. As a member of the TDR community, it is important to consider the following:

  • Using proper protection (for both you and your partner) is important. When used consistently, condoms and other mechanisms can considerably reduce the risk of contracting or passing on a sexually transmitted infection (STI), such as HIV. However, it is possible to get certain STI's, like herpes or HPV from contact with your partner's skin even when using a condom.
  • It's within your rights to have a conversation with your partner regarding sex and sexual contact before actually having it. Anything from the number of partners each of you has had, to the last time each of you was tested for STI's, are reasonable questions to ask.
  • If either you or your partner has an STI that is curable, you both need to complete treatment to avoid becoming re-infected. It is important to be completely honest in these conversations.
  • The risk of contracting some STI's can be reduced through vaccination.
  • Because some STI's don't show symptoms, it's important to undergo regular testing to know your status. After testing, always ask for a copy of your test results so you are certain of your status.
