Hey Guys! Doing A Dating Photoshoot? Here Are 10 Tips That Can Help

We know, we know - you hate getting in front of the camera. Most men are not thrilled by the idea of a photoshoot, let alone a photoshoot for dating pictures. While it might seem like a nuisance, you can trust us experts that great photos really will make a difference when it comes to finding your match. So whether you're working with a professional, or simply having a friend take better photos for you, we've got you covered.

The goal of this shoot is to get photos that really look like you, and in the best possible light. So often professional photos look goofy or they don’t reflect your true personality, so here are a few tips to put your best foot forward. And who knows, you might just have fun doing it too.

Dress like you would for a first date

The goal is to impress someone the same way you would when you go on a first date and to paint the picture of what it would be like to go out with you. So, what does that mean? Well, it means showing some effort, looking well put together, and being thoughtful about what you choose to wear. Looking sloppy makes women think that you don’t have your life in order.

Drink lots of water and get sleep the night before

Avoid drinking alcohol the night before a shoot, and drink lots of water too. It seems like a little thing, but because men’s don’t get to hide behind makeup on these shoots, you want your skin to look its best. Water basically fills in fine lines and wrinkles, so trust us, it;s a tiny adjustment that can be a big benefit to your photos! And get some sleep - not sleeping the night before will show.

Plan your haircut on the right day

Every guy hates his haircut when he first gets it done. Usually, it takes a day or two before that length is looking just right. You know how many days it takes before you feel great about it, so schedule an appointment for a haircut in advance of your shoot. You don’t have to do anything special with your hair - don’t use a new gel or try a new technique the morning of - fix your hair how you do when you want it to look nice. And please don’t dye your hair or decide to wear a hairpiece. Women can tell, and we prefer the natural look.

Trim those facial hairs and get cleaned up

When was the last time you trimmed your nose hairs? Women notice these things right away, and it can be a huge turnoff. Make sure your eyebrows aren’t out of control. If you need to, ask a female friend you trust how you’re looking on that front, and hopefully she’ll give you an honest opinion.

Get your teeth sparkly

You would be surprised how many people - both men and women - bring up teeth as a deciding factor when it comes to who they want to date. Yellow teeth in photos is a big no no. We like Crest WhiteStrips, but you can also ask your dentist what they recommend for whitening products. You don’t want them TOO white though. It’s a fine line between a great smile and weird over-whitening.

Keep your nails short

Another small turnoff that can mean you don’t get the date. Keep your nails clean and trimmed, and honestly, don’t be afraid of getting a man’s manicure once in a while. It feels really nice, and clean hands and fingernails also make you look like you’re put together and responsible. These are all little indicators that you’re able to take care of yourself, and so will be able to take care of her.

Get the beard in order

Beards are incredibly trendy right now, and lots of women love them, but they have to look trimmed. If your beard it dark, it will look more prominent in photos than it does in real life, so just be sure to trim it especially well.

Match your belt and your shoes

Common sense? You might think so. When you wear black shoes, do not wear a brown belt. And vice versa. It sounds old school, but it’s just one of those little things that can make you look much more polished.

Wear clothes that fit

Having tailored clothes is HUGE for men - perhaps more so than for women. If you’re not sure what to wear, we recommend Trunk Club, which is a service in many major cities where a stylist can help you pick out some great new clothes, and you can even tell her that you’re looking for clothes for this photoshoot! It’s affordable and you won’t regret investing in new threads that will make you feel confident and handsome in your photos.

Smile naturally and enjoy it!

A natural smile can be the best way to get to know someone. Enjoy yourself during the shoot, and try not to be too stiff. You don’t have to be a professional male model, but try to move and stand naturally in front of the camera. Feel free to ask the photographer for advice on what to do and if you can, relax and have fun!

That’s it! With those tips, you should be good to go. Remember, if you have questions, you can always ask your matchmaker for advice. That’s what we’re here for!
